AI girlfriend simulators and games

AI girlfriend simulators and games

People search "AI girlfriend simulator" meaning two completely different things, and conflating them wastes money and time. One is a companion app: open-ended chat, meant to be a relationship. The other is a game: designed scenes, a story, a win state. They look similar in a store screenshot and behave nothing alike once you are in.

If you want an open-ended partner, you want a companion app, not a simulator. If you want a designed experience with a goal, you want a game. Three games dominate this search: the Yandere AI Girlfriend Simulator (uses your own ChatGPT key), its commercial successor AI2U (a flat $14.99 on Steam), and the free adult game My Dystopian Robot Girlfriend, which despite the name has no AI in it at all.

Three companion personas of the Nomi, Character.AI, and Talkie kind. This is the open-ended side of the simulator search: a relationship with no ending, not a game with a win state.

The games that rank

Yandere AI Girlfriend Simulator. An escape-room game where the girlfriend, a catgirl holding you at the end of the world, is an LLM-driven character you have to talk, persuade, or trick into letting you out. It supports microphone input, and "you can discuss any topics you want with her."

The catch that surprises everyone: the itch download is name-your-price (free), but it requires your own OpenAI API key, so you pay OpenAI per token as you play. It sits at 3.8/5 from 285 ratings and went viral around March 2023. Full breakdown in what it is.

Character.AI moving into studio-made microdramas. Its animation ambitions are real, but it animates library characters, not your partner.

AI2U: With You 'Til The End. The commercial successor from AlterStaff, in Steam Early Access since January 23, 2025, priced at $14.99, with 1,626 recommendations. It dropped the bring-your-own-API-key model for a single purchase. Reception is mixed (Anime News Network gave it a D for repetition), but it is the "just pay once and play" version of the concept.

The trailer. Note how much of the pitch is the premise rather than the play.

My Dystopian Robot Girlfriend (Factorial Omega). The one people are most surprised by. It is a free 18+ visual-novel-slash-sim where you repair and customize an android in a collapsing world, with Live2D animation, survival mechanics, and stock-market and streaming minigames.

But it is scripted content, not an LLM. There is no AI chat despite the name.

It dominates the "robot girlfriend game" search because it is free, runs in-browser, and sits at 4.8/5 from 13,905 ratings. I cover why it wins in the game explained.

A creator playing through it. The games in this lane live or die on whether the bot is funny, not on whether it is convincing.

The older games

The virtual-girlfriend game is not new. Konami's LovePlus (Nintendo DS, Japan 2009) was the template, and it is the game a Japanese man using the handle SAL9000 "married" in a 2009 ceremony with a priest and a livestream. Big-budget games touch the theme too: Detroit: Become Human and NieR: Automata both build android relationships into their stories. Those are games about androids, not girlfriend simulators, but they are why the trope feels familiar.

Which one is right for you

  1. Want an actual open-ended partner? Skip the games. Go to the honest app map. A game has an ending; a companion app does not.
  2. Want a clever, contained experience with real AI? Yandere AI Girlfriend Simulator (free plus your API key) or AI2U ($14.99, no key).
  3. Want a free adult sim and do not care that the "AI" is scripted? My Dystopian Robot Girlfriend.

And a definitional note worth reading if the whole category is new to you: what is an AI girlfriend untangles "app," "simulator," and "generator" for good.
