Vidqu AI girlfriend: legit or ad-funnel?

Vidqu AI girlfriend: legit or ad-funnel?

Vidqu is dead. If you searched "Vidqu AI girlfriend" and landed on a glowing review telling you to sign up, that review is out of date and it is pointing you at a corpse. The main domain fails DNS resolution and the apex just redirects to the dead host. I checked in July 2026.

It was an anonymous browser AI toolkit that pivoted into "AI girlfriend" chat, took prepaid credits, then went silent with no refund process anyone can find.

It still shows up in search because a tail of affiliate reviews keeps ranking a product that no longer exists. The gap between "reviewers say it's great" and "it doesn't exist" is the whole lesson.

What it was

Vidqu (vidqu.ai) was a browser toolkit: video face swap (up to three faces), image generation, a video translator, and an "AI girlfriend" chat feature with image output that lived at vidqu.ai/ai-girlfriend.html. Over time it de-emphasized the face-swap tools and leaned into the companion features, reportedly because companion subscriptions retained about 5x better than one-off creative tools. That pivot is the tell. The money in this space is recurring intimacy, and every operator knows it.

Loading the site in July 2026: https://www.vidqu.ai/ fails DNS resolution (NXDOMAIN) from two separate networks, and the apex https://vidqu.ai/ answers only with a 301 redirect to that dead host.

A post-mortem writeup states the face-swap tools are "permanently down" as of mid-2026. The operator was never disclosed. No company name, no jurisdiction.

The about page claimed video R&D "since 2004," an implausible heritage claim for what the product actually was. (Vidqu is not Vidu, the unrelated Chinese text-to-video company. Different thing entirely.)

An AI-generated girlfriend render, the glossy studio look these tools sell. Pictures like this kept ranking for Vidqu long after the product itself went dark.

The two red flags

Two structural problems made Vidqu a landmine, and both are copy-pasteable warnings for any tool in this space.

The first was the money model: prepaid credits. A free tier of about 50 chat messages a week, then paid credits. Reviewers quoted the paid pricing two incompatible ways, $9.99/month for 80 credits in one blog, a $5 one-day trial plus $30/month in another.

That conflict is itself the evidence. No "reviewer" ever archived a real pricing page. They were repeating marketing.

When a credit-based, anonymous service goes dark, your prepaid balance is simply gone. There is no documented refund process for Vidqu, and no company to invoice.

Regional coverage of the Vidqu-style funnel. These tools get press in the moment and vanish quietly.

The second was the affiliate review ring. Dozens of near-identical "Best AI Girlfriend 2026" sites rank every product they hold an affiliate deal with, and they do not update when a product dies. Vidqu is the proof.

Search still surfaces "reviews" sending readers to a domain that no longer resolves, from soulgen's blog to rubii's to StartupHub's, each still walking you toward the corpse.

Treat every third-party ranking in this niche as advertising until proven otherwise. The same instinct protects you in the doll market, where the pattern is identical. See how to not get scammed.

The rule for prepaying any of these

Legit and safe-to-prepay are different claims. Vidqu was, at some point, a real working tool. It still ended with users' credit balances vaporized and no recourse. So the standing rule for AI girlfriend tools:

  • Load the actual site yourself before paying, and if it is broken or redirecting to a dead host, walk.
  • Never prepay a large credit balance to an anonymous operator.
  • Pay with a credit card so you have a chargeback path, full stop.
  • Distrust any pricing number you cannot see on the live site right now.

For live, verified alternatives that actually resolve, use the browser sites ranking and the generator explainer. The full field is in the reviews index.

A polished companion render of the type prepaid-credit tools advertise. The image is easy to make. The refund path, once the operator goes silent, is not.

Verdict

Vidqu is dead, and in retrospect a high-risk ad-funnel. Anonymous operator. Prepaid credits. A silent shutdown that took everyone's balance with it.

Do not sign up, do not pay, and treat any review that tells you to as evidence that review is not paying attention. Let it be the example that keeps your card safe on the next tool.
