Eva AI, Anima and Romantic AI: the second tier

Eva AI, Anima and Romantic AI: the second tier

Below Replika and Character.AI sits a second tier of nearly interchangeable "AI girlfriend" apps: Eva AI, Anima and Romantic AI. They advertise the same flirty companionship and share the same problems, so I am reviewing them together instead of pretending each deserves its own page.

Privacy is the actual story with this tier, and Mozilla's testing is what makes it possible to say so with numbers. All three are template romance apps with real privacy problems and currency-based paywalls, and in one case terms that flatly contradict the marketing.

Eva AI fired 955 trackers in a single minute. Anima's developer name has changed at least twice. Romantic AI fired over 24,000 ad trackers in one minute, with at least one sending data to Russia, while marketing itself as mental-health support its own terms disclaim. Try them if you want, but these are the least-trustworthy front doors in the category.

Eva AI is made by Novi Limited (evaapp.ai), first released on iOS in February 2021, positioned around "Feel chosen" with a progressive-intimacy hook ("not everything opens up right away"). The money model is a Neurons currency: romantic messages cost 2 Neurons each, gifts cost Neurons, and the free "Basic" tier is described only as "limited access" in the iOS terms. Prices from the Apple listing: EVA Premium $13.99, one-month memberships at $11.99 / $14.99 / $24.99, twelve-month at $47.99 / $69.99, and 500 Neurons for $9.99.

Two things stand out. First, a marketing-versus-terms gap: it is sold as flirty and romantic, but the iOS terms prohibit "sexually explicit, pornographic, or adult-themed content."

Second, the privacy record. Mozilla's "Privacy Not Included" review found 955 trackers within one minute of use (data going to Facebook and others) and that the app accepts passwords as weak as "1111." Here is a representative hands-on:

Anima (iGirl / iBoy)

Anima is the one whose corporate paperwork should make you pause. The developer of record on Google Play today is "LABANE CORP. Limited," but Mozilla attributed it to "Anima AI Ltd" in early 2024, and older store metadata points to "Apperry Ltd." A companion app whose maker's name changes twice is a consumer-protection flag in itself, because it tells you nothing about who holds your intimate chat data (Mozilla's iBoy review documented the churn).

The girlfriend app iGirl (package ai.girlfriend.virtual.dating.lover.igirl) shows 1M+ downloads, 4.2 stars, Mature 17+, and in-app purchases up to $199.99. Free gets you unlimited chat, text games and 15 avatars; a "Romantic Partners" premium around $10/month adds roleplay.

Mozilla found 257 tracking signals within five minutes, no real password requirement (they logged in with password "1"), and, tellingly, an in-app warning that the AI "might be hostile or toxic" because it was trained on Reddit data. The iOS versions appear delisted in 2026.

Romantic AI

Romantic AI is the most openly adult of the three and the most alarming on data. The seller of record is "Just Web It Oy," while the terms speak as "Romantic AI Inc." (romanticai.com). It is explicitly NSFW-friendly with toggleable "spicy replies" and photo generation, Play shows 100K+ downloads with IAP from $4.99 to $299.99 and ads.

Mozilla's finding is the headline: 24,354 ad trackers detected within one minute, at least one tracker sending data to Russia, and marketing that says the app is "here to maintain your MENTAL HEALTH" while the terms disclaim being any healthcare or therapeutic service.

One more red flag: the app's old Android package now serves a completely different app, "Vivy AI," from a different publisher, which is exactly the kind of data-custody handoff you never want with intimate chats.

The verdict

This whole tier competes on being cheap and flirty, and loses on trust. If you are going to try one, Eva AI is the most polished, but understand that "polished" and "24,354 trackers a minute next door" are describing the same neighborhood. Before you type anything personal into any of them, read what these apps collect; and for a better-run comparison point, the Replika review and the reviews index show where the bar actually sits.
